How to Hide Negative Comments on Facebook and Instagram Ads (2026)

You can hide a negative comment on a Facebook or Instagram ad in three ways. You can hide it by hand in Meta Business Suite. You can set Meta’s word filters to hide some comments for you. Or you can use a moderation tool that hides them on every ad, day and night. Hiding by hand works for a few ads. Brands running dozens of ads need it automated, because comments land at night and on weekends too.

Why hide comments on ads at all

Everyone an ad reaches can read the comments under it. A scam link, a slur or a pile of complaints sits under every impression you pay for. On Facebook, a hidden comment stays visible to the person who wrote it and their friends. So the commenter doesn’t see it removed, and everyone else sees a clean thread.

Method 1: Hide a comment by hand in Meta Business Suite

  1. Open Meta Business Suite and go to Inbox.

  2. Choose the Facebook comments or Instagram comments tab. Ad comments show up here next to comments on organic posts.

  3. Find the comment and open its menu (the three dots).

  4. Choose Hide. To bring it back, open the same menu and choose Unhide.

Meta moves these menus around, so the labels may differ slightly in your account.

Method 2: Turn on Meta’s word filters

  • Facebook: in your Page’s moderation settings, add words to keyword blocking and turn on the profanity filter. Facebook then hides comments that contain those words.

  • Instagram: open Settings, then Hidden Words. Turn on hiding for offensive comments and add your own words, phrases and emojis.

Test both on a live ad before you trust them. Guides disagree on whether Facebook’s keyword blocking covers ad comments as well as Page posts. You set Hidden Words on the Instagram account, so check what it catches on ads that run under it.

Where the native tools fall short

  • Someone has to be watching. Hiding by hand only happens when a person checks, and comments keep landing at 2am and on Sunday.

  • Word lists miss a lot. They catch exact words. Sarcasm, misspellings and a plain “this broke after a week” all get through.

  • The good comments go unanswered. Filters only hide. A buyer asking “does this come in a large?” gets no reply.

Method 3: Hide ad comments automatically, 24/7

A moderation tool connects to your ad accounts through Meta’s API and hides comments as they land, on every ad. Tools differ in how they decide what to hide and whether they reply. We compared seven in our guide to the best ad comment moderation tools.

Pinpoint’s moderation agent hides spam, scams and off-brand comments in real time on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok ads. The other agents answer what is left. The FAQ agent answers product questions from your knowledge base. The product discovery agent sends the right Shopify link by comment and DM. Anything sensitive goes to your team by text, email or Slack. Every agent runs in shadow mode for about a week, so your team approves each draft before anything goes live.

FAQ

Does the person know their comment was hidden?

On Facebook, the comment stays visible to the person who wrote it and their friends. Everyone else stops seeing it.

Should I hide or delete negative comments on ads?

Hide most of them. Delete only scams and abuse. A deleted comment is gone for the writer too, and some people notice and post again.

Can I hide comments on TikTok ads?

Yes. TikTok Ads Manager has a Comments Manager where you can hide comments one by one or in bulk, and a Blocked Words list that hides matching comments. Pinpoint also covers TikTok ads.

Does hiding comments hurt my ad?

Hiding a spam or abusive comment cleans up the thread every viewer reads. The risk comes from hiding fair questions and complaints, so answer those instead.

Can I turn off Meta’s filters and use a tool instead?

Yes, and many brands run both. Keep your word lists as a backup and let the tool handle what the lists miss. Read CommentGuard alternatives and NapoleonCat alternatives to compare options.
